Tracking Your Child's Development
When your child starts at the Nursery, they will be allocated a key worker who monitors and records their development. Each child has a Learning Diary which provides a holistic picture of their learning and devlopment. Their diaries include photographs, observations and examples of their work. Children are encouraged to help with completing their diaries and look back on their achievemnets as this helps to cement their learning. We also invite parents and carers to contribute to the diaries and share information about what their child enjoys and is interested in doing at home. Your child's Learning Diary is available for you to see at any time.
We aim to build a relationship with you as well as your child, so the day to day informal chats with you will enable us to share important information about them and their achievements.
'Pips' & 'Buds' The 'Birth to Three Matters' framework is the guidance that underpins the planning for our youngest children. This document identifies 4 aspects that contribute to early childhood development. These are: - A Strong Child - A Skilful Communicator - A Competent Learner - A Healthy Child
We plan the children's experiences with these aspects very much in mind.
Your child's developmental steps will be recorded through planned and spontaneous observation, and is available for you to see at any time.
'Blossoms' The Foundation Stage Guidance underpins all the learning experiences for this age group.
This document identifies 6 areas of learning and the developmental stages within each area (Stepping Stones) that children need to go through in order to progress with confidence into Key Stage1 when they are six. The 6 areas of learning are; - Communication, Language & Literacy - Mathematical Development - Physical Development - Creative Development - Knowledge Understanding of the World - Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We plan carefully, so that activities and experiences relating to each area of learning are provided each day. Some activities are adult led whilst others will be child initiated.
We use the Wiltshire 'Building Blocks' to record each child's developmental progress.
Our aim would be that when your child leaves the nursery and begins school he/she will be able to: - Hold a pencil correctly - Recognise and write their own name - Recognise some letters and know some letter sounds - Recognise the numbers to 10 - Recognise primary and secondary colours - Name simple 2 dimensional shapes - Share their ideas in an ordered coherent way - Listen to other people - Form healthy relationships with adults and children - Understand and follow simple instructions
